''Bizzy breaks''/10@10

Our students have really enjoyed the ''bizzy breaks''/10@10 initiative which gets them up and moving on the days when PE is not timetabled. The breaks consist of short low intensity exercises which are performed in the classroom. They include ''looseners,'' ''huffers'' and ''stretchers.'' All our students completed the 10@10 initiative on February 10th and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. 5th and 6th class students acted as instructors for the younger kids after watching the ''Operation Transformation'' video.

Active interests!

Some of our 3rd class students writing about the positions/weight classes in their favorite sport. A broad range of interests in small class: Hurling, boxing and rugby!

''Do your talking while you're walking!''

''Do your talking while you're walking'' is a slogan which encourages all our children to be active during break-time. Children are encouraged to talk while they walk rather than sitting for a chat!

Playground Patrol

Our playground patrol have been doing a great job this year making sure everyone is involved in games and activities while out on the playground. Their role is to insure everyone is included and participating in all the activities which happen on the yard!

Our non competitive running tour of South Galway/North Clare

Image
Our pupils have been touring the country side this past month through a ''drop everything and run'' initiative. The children are encouraged to run or walk laps of the playground at different times throughout the school week. The distance they travel is then aggregated and a total distance is calculated. Five laps of the yard by 1 person adds up to roughly 1 Km. The senior room have been averaging about 20-24 km after five minutes of running when all their distances are added together. As the children hit landmarks along the way such as-Thoor Ballylee, Coole Park, Dunguaire castle, the cliffs of Moher etc.- each room's marker is moved to show how far they have traveled collectively. Each child is encouraged to travel at a pace which is comfortable for them. Some children are helping their class get around the map by walking and this is perfectly fine!

Active School Week

This year our Active School Week will take place from the 8th - 12th May. Any parents willing to get involved and get active can let their interest be known through their children or contact the school on 085 874 7269. The more people involved the better! It's a great opportunity for active parents to act as positive role models for their children and get a fitness kick themselves in the process!

Thank you

A massive thanks to St Thomas' hurling club for donating 24 brand new cooper sliotars to the school. They will be put to good use as we prepare for the Cumann na mBunscol camogie and hurling competitions. We also have a challenge match to look forward to against our neighbors Kilchreest NS this week.

A huge thank you to Ms Finnerty who took the children for multiple gymnastic workshops during her time in Peterswell! The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and learned a great amount!
