Hurling & camogie 2017/18

Hurling & camogie 2017/18
This has been a great year for hurling and camogie in our school. The year began with the mini sevens competition in both hurling and camogie. Our girls were very unlucky not to advance to the finals of the competition after winning all their group games bar one. A loss to New Inn would prove decisive as New Inn advanced. However there was great enjoyment on the day and all of our subs got a run with a challenge game between ourselves and neighbours Kilchreest capping off a great day of camogie.
The hurling mini sevens would be decided in a derby game where our boys were unfortunate to lose out to a good Kilchreest side in the decisive game. Having beaten Lough Cutra and Lurga the neighbours faced off in an exciting encounter. Kilchreest would go onto win the final. Peterswell were happy to stay on and support their club mates in the final.
These competitions early in the year gave the teams’ time to evaluate their performance and learn from their mistakes. Challenge games against Kilchreest in spring allowed for some more learning and development.
The preparation and training would be put to use in in the 11 a side competition for the boys’ team which was held in Killimor in May. It was a tall order to field an 11 a side team however we were lucky to be able to call on the services of some of our third class pupils who all gave displays to be proud of. Unfortunately for our boys they came up against a very strong Killimordaly side that would advance to the finals. Earlier in the day we recoded victories over both Ballinasloe and Killimor. Gary Kennedy gave a captains display and proved to be a great leader throughout the day.

The girls would compete in their blitz the following day. A clean sweep was on the cards for Peterswell having defeated Gort NS they would face Northampton in the deciding fixture. Rousing displays from Shauna Dooley, Lena Fahy and Abbie Massey would see them advance to the finals in Loughgeorge on June 15th. Best of luck girls and do us proud!
